INTERDISCIPLINARY LESSON AT SAVREMENA: STUDENTS COMBINE KNOWLEDGE IN HISTORY AND BIOLOGY

On Monday, 16 September, Year 5 students of Primary School Savremena had a particularly interesting interdisciplinary lesson in which they learnt about natural materials. The students gained and combined knowledge and skills in history and biology, which they were also able to test and apply in practical activities.

EXPERIENCING ANCIENT EGYPT THROUGH CLAY SCULPTURES

Apart from the history and biology teachers, who gave a lecture on natural materials, Savremena’s students were also joined by Natalija Stanković, a student of Savremena Gimnazija, who had prepared an interesting and educational lecture and a guessing game on the topic.

The students then applied their skills in a practical activity during which they made various clay sculptures, illustrating what the Egyptians used this material for. Savremena’s Year 5 students did this activity in groups, after which they presented their sculptures to a “committee” comprising Savremena’s teachers and Year 1 students.

The students received points for the accuracy of the facts they used, their ability and the design of the sculptures, after which the winners were declared. Congratulations to the winners and well done to all the participants!

KNOWLEDGE IS EXPANDED THROUGH SHARING

All the students did really well in this task and learnt a lot. They particularly liked the multidisciplinary nature of the lesson, which allowed them to see how linked everything is in nature and how much society depends on natural resources and their availability.
This has been just one of the many projects in which the younger students team up with their older friends, which is a great advantage of Savremena’s schools where knowledge is constantly shared and expanded.
