Savremena as Part of the “Luka Jovanović” Humanitarian Memorial Tournament
Savremena Primary School took part in the “Luka Jovanović” Humanitarian Memorial Tournament, an event that has been bringing people together around sport, unity and humanity for ten years. This year, the tournament had a particularly important goal – raising funds for Sofija’s medical treatment, and our students contributed to this noble mission through their participation.
The tournament was held in Block 63, at 40 Jurija Gagarina Street, on the court known as “4 Koša”, where teams, supporters and everyone who believes that sport can be much more than a game gathered together. Through basketball, fair play and support for those who need help the most, this event once again showed how powerful a community can be when it comes together for a good cause.
For Savremena Primary School, taking part in this tournament had a special meaning. Our students did not only represent the school on the court, but also showed responsibility, team spirit and willingness to be part of a humanitarian story that preserves the memory of Luka Jovanović while also providing support for Sofija.

Two Savremena Teams Among the Best at the Tournament
Savremena Primary School was represented at the tournament by two junior teams, whose dedication, sportsmanship and wonderful energy attracted the attention of everyone present. We are especially proud of the fact that our teams were the only junior teams in the entire tournament, and despite that, they achieved an outstanding result – winning second and third place.
The first team consisted of Aleksa Rikanović VI-3, Damjan Grumić VI-1 and Mihajlo Trifunović VI-2. This team played in the green school uniform and showed great determination, strong cooperation and readiness to give their best in every match.
The second team consisted of Petar Stefanović VI-1, Filip Šubara VI-1 and Vuk Đurđević V-3. They played in the white school T-shirt for physical education and also demonstrated excellent team spirit, persistence and fair play.
Every basket, every move on the court and every cheer from the sidelines carried a greater message – that sport can build friendship, solidarity and a sense of responsibility towards others. Our students showed that victory is not only measured by the final score, but also by the willingness to play for a cause with a deeply humanitarian meaning.
Sport, Humanity and Togetherness on the Same Team
The “Luka Jovanović” Humanitarian Memorial Tournament has been preserving Luka’s memory for years through sport, togetherness and good deeds. That is why Savremena Primary School’s participation in this story represents much more than a sports performance. It shows that a school has an important role in developing empathy, solidarity and awareness in children of how important it is to help others.
Through this tournament, our students had the opportunity to experience what it means when sports spirit is connected with a humanitarian goal. They played bravely, fairly and with a strong desire to contribute to an event organised to raise funds for Sofija’s medical treatment. Their success on the court made the day even more special, but what matters even more is that they were part of an initiative that can mean a great deal to someone.
We are proud of our students, their parents, teachers and everyone who supported Savremena’s participation in this humanitarian story. The second and third places won by our teams are a confirmation of effort and talent, but also a beautiful reminder that the greatest victories are achieved when we play together – for others.
