Halloween fancy dress party: scaring fear with scary masks

Having fun in magical and slightly terrifying costumes and masks

The little ones donned their creative costumes and masks in a day of magic and sharing. That’s how the latest Halloween fancy dress party at Savremena began. The teachers also put on their costumes. It was exciting to choose the best and most original costumes, and the “scariest” masks received diplomas.

Halloween is the perfect day for creative costumes, scary stories, and great fun. It has become a tradition at Savremena, and the children really enjoy dressing up as different creatures in order to overcome prejudice, misconceptions, and fears.

HALLOWEEN HAS BEEN POPULAR FOR MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND YEARS

Halloween can be traced back to ancient Celtic festivals, which took place in modern-day Great Britain and Ireland two millennia ago. The Celts celebrated New Year’s on 1 November, when they marked the end of summer and harvest, and the beginning of a long winter that symbolised death.

The Celts believed that on the evening before winter starts, the realm of the living and the realm of the dead mix, and that on the night of 31 October spirits visit the Earth. Later, the celebration was substantially transformed, primarily in New England, where the customs of Europeans and Native Americans intertwined and Halloween started looking like the holiday we celebrate today. People organised parties, danced, played music, told stories, and foretold each other’s future.

Today, one of the goals of this event is to help participants overcome their fears (from scary things, masks, and the dead) by putting on costumes of the things that frighten many people.

Once again we showed why we are fearless. And we had an amazing time.
Just look at the little ones’ creations.
