Globetrotters: Learning Languages Through Play and Culture from an Early Age

Partnership with the European project Globetrotters

Savremena Primary School is proud to announce its partnership with the European project Globetrotters, designed to introduce pupils aged 6 to 9 to a linguistic and cultural journey that goes beyond traditional teaching methods.

Globetrotters: Learning Languages, Discovering Cultures, Connecting Worlds

Inspired by the idea that “borders become virtual, and differences part of everyday life,” the Globetrotters project builds bridges between languages and cultures, preparing children not only for exams but also for life in a globalised world. Through games, stories, and interactive adventures with friendly alien characters, pupils explore Romanian music, Greek traditions, Dutch and Serbian words, and even Belgian recipes—all through gamified tasks and problem-solving modules developed by teachers, linguists, and cultural institutions from several European countries. Inclusivity is at the core of the programme — materials are accessible and adapted for every child, including those with different learning styles or neurodivergence. Why It’s Never Too Early to Learn a Language

Kids at Savremena Primary School now have the opportunity to take part in an innovative approach to language learning, based on the idea that early childhood is the perfect time to acquire foreign languages. A young brain is highly “plastic,” which enables children to absorb language intuitively — through context, sound, and repetition — without the need for formal grammar or translation. The Globetrotters methodology involves games, music, stories, and visual stimuli that boost cognitive development, improve memory, and provide a strong foundation for better results in other school subjects, such as mathematics and science. This approach strengthens intercultural competence, fosters empathy and respect for diversity, and supports inclusion for all learners. You can find out more about the advantages of this approach here: Why It’s Never Too Early to Learn a Language.

Learning Without Borders

By introducing the Globetrotters programme, Savremena Primary School allows children to develop a love for languages and cultures from the very first years of primary education. Pupils learn by playing and exploring, supported by an inclusive and creative learning concept. This approach not only strengthens language skills but also nurtures tolerance, curiosity, and readiness for life in a dynamic, multicultural society.
