Global Perspectives:
Developing critical thinking through a project
At Savremena Elementary School, learning is an active process that involves participation, exploration, and the development of independent thinking. This approach is especially present in Global Perspectives classes, where fourth-grade students build essential skills through project-based and interactive activities.
During this project, the classroom became a space for open dialogue, where students explored different topics and formed clear opinions. Through debates, they engaged with questions relevant to their everyday lives as well as broader social themes. This method helps them connect knowledge with real-life situations and develop the ability to express their ideas with clarity and confidence.
A strong focus was placed on developing critical thinking. Students learned how to distinguish opinions from facts, recognize strong arguments, and present them effectively. In a supportive and respectful environment, every student had the opportunity to participate and contribute to the shared learning experience.
In this way, students not only gain knowledge but also build confidence and essential lifelong skills.

Debate as a tool for understanding and argumentation
Through structured debates, students explored different perspectives and learned how to support their views with clear and logical arguments. The topics were carefully chosen to encourage discussion and critical thinking, ranging from school-related questions to everyday life situations.
Students took turns speaking, actively listening to one another, and responding to opposing viewpoints. This process helped them develop public speaking skills as well as respect for different opinions and constructive communication.
An important part of the activity was the voting process after each debate. Instead of voting based on personal beliefs, students chose the most convincing speaker—the one who presented the strongest and clearest arguments. This approach encouraged them to evaluate ideas objectively.
Such activities promote responsible thinking and decision-making, as students learn to base their conclusions on reasoning rather than personal bias.
Skills that shape the future
This project demonstrated the importance of giving students an active role in their learning. Through debate, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas, they develop essential skills for their future.
They learn how to express their opinions clearly, listen to others, and defend their viewpoints with arguments. At the same time, they build confidence and a sense of responsibility for their thoughts and words.
Global Perspectives classes provide a safe and stimulating environment where students can explore ideas, ask questions, and develop critical thinking skills. Through such experiences, they become active participants in their own education.
At Savremena Elementary School, we believe that knowledge is most valuable when it is understood and applied. That is why we encourage students to think, analyze, and make informed decisions—skills that will guide them throughout their lives.
