Football tournament showcases sports skills, talent and unity of Savremena’s students
Savremena’s courts host unforgettable competition
Savremena knows full well how much its students love sports; this is why the school often organises sporting events and tournaments. This is a story about one of them: a futsal tournament held on 12 May, in which all participants excelled at fair play, unity and great talent.
MIXED TEAMS TAKE THE COURT AND SHOW THEIR MASTERY
With sunny weather prevailing at long last, the students who like to play football took the court, with their friends in attendance, cheering heartily. In the participating dream teams, featuring classes IV-1, V-1, V-2 and VI-1 – boys and girls played together!!!
The games began with great excitement. The qualifications involved all teams playing with one another, under the watchful eye of the tournament organiser and referee Željko Zarić, their PE teacher.
The scores decided as follows: IV-1 and V-1 qualified for the finals, and VI-1 were set to play for the third place.
It should be noted that things were interesting right until the very end, with quite a few amazing goals, also – very importantly – all participants demonstrated a level of true sportspersonship and fair play well deserving of a place in the next phase of the competition.
SKY OPENS UP! EVERYONE WINS!
Football is a dramatic sport, regardless of the size of the court. No one can be sure that the game is over until the very last whistle. Savremena’s students waited patiently for the finals and the game for bronze, enjoying a break that was made in order for the players to rest and, of course, sharpen up their tactics.
The first phase of the tournament clearly showed that Savremena has quite a few talented players in its ranks, capable of moves that were nothing short of thrilling to the many teachers and students in attendance.
And then, just as the first game of the next phase – the battle for the third place – was starting, the sky opened up. Disregarding the forecast that predicted fine weather, the rain took over the court – discreetly at first, but soon turning into a full-blown storm.
After a 30-minute break spent waiting for the conditions to improve, it could only be observed that the weather was, if anything, getting worse. The only sensible decision was to stop the tournament and let the winner be decided on another, finer day.
Until then, it is time to praise the students’ enthusiasm and the exceptional games already played. Everybody was pronounced a winner. It was clear to the students that there was not much they could do about the rain. But that’s not the main thing! Their friendship and the joy they derive from wholesome activities are much more important.
All in all, another win-win at Savremena.
