Exploratory missions for greater creativity through the Finnish education model
Savremena students obtain new knowledge by means of Finland’s successful education method
A curriculum where lessons come one after the other simply does not exist here, because Savremena is a school where Finland’s educational model is applied in an innovative way, and where different subject matters are interconnected. Such a teaching model makes lessons more dynamic and gives an interdisciplinary approach to certain problems, and it thus contributes to the overall improvement in the teaching process.
Year 3 students had different exploratory missions in September under the name “Forests”, where they had a chance to reach various data and information on their own. During this process, they could truly show their creativity and curiosity, which confirms the fact that at Savremena we thoroughly work on preparing children for the 21st century.
BOUNDARIES AMONG SUBJECTS BECOME INVISIBLE, AND THE SCHOOL BECOMES A PLACE WHERE STUDENTS HAPPILY COME
Such a way of working enables the students to comprehend the essence of subject matter, to obtain functional knowledge, to implement it into planning, preparing and realizing activities, and it has enabled the increase of student satisfaction.
Through this model, children get ready for lifelong learning, and the school becomes a more interesting place where students happily come. Such lessons become extremely stimulating and encouraging for students. The interconnected contents contribute to the knowledge which is holistic, valuable, and useful.
The boundaries among different subjects or disciplines are erased or partially invisible here. Such a model makes sensible links among different aspects of various disciplines. The disciplines then integrate, permeate each other, and merge into a new whole which is much larger and more significant than a simple sum of its elements, i.e. individual subjects and disciplines.
Knowledge is not artificially divided into subjects and disciplines, but we see the world as a whole, and we observe and study it in such a manner, which provides a comprehensive learning context which leads to greater possibility to remember links and solve problems. One can best remember and acquire pieces of information which are interconnected into a meaningful whole.
FINLAND’S EDUCATION AS THE GUARANTEE FOR HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATION
For a long time, Finland’s education has been the world’s best educational system. The principles on which this model lies prepare students for a successful life and work in the 21st century by teaching them to be curious, resourceful, and brave as they acquire new knowledge. Furthermore, the teachers working in such systems are creative, devoted and persistent in their efforts to help each child acquire key knowledge and reach their full potential according to their needs and affinities.
Savremena is the only school in the region which, in collaboration with the New Nordic School from Finland, officially provides its students with Finnish education by means of the Nordic Baccalaureate program. Savremena’s students thus receive a carefully blended combination of the best elements from Serbian, international and Finnish education.
We believe that Savremena primary students will grow into people who will, in the world of uncertain future, manage to win their own place under the Sun.
