English as a Second Language at Savremena: Mini Market role-play

Savremena Elementary School students learn English through innovative Mini Market role-play

Savremena Elementary School students displayed great engagement and creativity in the process of English learning through an innovative role-play game called Mini Market, where they succeeded in learning the given terms and acquiring communication skills through a trading simulation game.

A Fun Way to Learn

The game itself is designed to make English language learning easier through practicality and fun. Through this simulation, they played the roles of a shop assistant and a customer interchangeably, used common English greetings during their meeting, and successfully communicated what items they needed. The students used English terms for fruit, vegetables, meat, and other produce, and they even set up prices for the products in English.

Students Made Everything By Themselves

All the products used in the game were hand-made out of paper, cardboard, and colors, which further contributed to authentic and creative learning. Through this practical approach, the students had a chance to feel, both visually and physically, as well as memorize the English terms and concepts, which considerably aided their successful completion of the given lectures.

By the end of the game, the students learned everything and acquired the new English terms with ease. This interactive and engaging teaching methodology not only encourages the students to actively participate in the learning process, but also enables deeper understanding and application of the acquired material. At Savremena Elementary School, we truly learn differently. The material and creativity are combined into lessons which are enjoyable for the students.
