CREATIVE STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES: SAVREMENA’S PRIMARY STUDENTS CREATE THEIR AUTUMN CORNER
The beginning of the school year and the arrival of autumn has mostly been marked in schools with usual essays written on the advent of autumn. However, this is not the case at Primary School Savremena. First, Savremena’s primary school students carried out a project in the school hallway whereby they created a cosy autumn corner and learnt about traditional Serbian culture, after which they wrote down their impressions in a Serbian language lesson.
We made autumn leaves out of paper and coloured them, and the teacher taught us about tradition and why we should foster it!
A NEST, BIRDS AND PAPER LEAVES – A WEALTH OF IDEAS
The students didn’t lack creativity – in addition to autumn-coloured leaves, they were taught by the teachers how to make a simple fruit and vegetable basket. The autumn energy generated many new ideas, as the students used paper, small pieces of branches and colours to create a nest and little birds. They also used acorns, pine cones and chestnuts to decorate the nook in which they will meet between lessons to exchange new ideas.
But this is not all! Each day, the students will add new creations to their autumn corner. Savremena’s lessons, the art club, workshops and autumn have awakened creativity among the students, enabling them to discover their talents.
THE STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT TRADITIONAL SERBIAN CULTURE
While expressing their creativity and arranging their autumn corner, the students learnt what a dulek is, how kilims are made and what constitutes cultural heritage. In some lessons, the students had learnt about world culture; now they had the opportunity to compare Serbian tradition with others, while their friends from other countries told them interesting facts about their traditions and customs.
