Corner Day – We explored what the human mind can do
Corner Day – Students of Savremena acquired various skills and knowledge at creative workshops
Our students of higher grades started this working week in a very interesting way! They used the opportunity to connect the acquired knowledge from different school subjects at numerous workshops that took place on another Corner Day. The topic of this year’s workshops was “What the human mind can do.”
The workshop that took place in the robotics classroom attracted special attention. Using VR glasses, the students along with their teacher Maja Babić had the opportunity to see the reaction of the human brain to different stimuli, and a special challenge for them was a quiz with the robot Pepper, which our students adore.
The teacher of Serbian language and literature, Marina Gava, had an interesting workshop with her students as well! After a short lecture on creating science-fiction news, the students formed teams and were given cards with different concepts written on them from which they had the task of creating news. At these workshops, we saw the vivid imagination of our creative students.
Students’ motor skills, but also the skill of quick colour recognition, were tested at a workshop with our psychologist Katarina Mladenović. Analysing their achievements at the workshops, she explained to us why we sometimes focus more on the content of the text than on its accompanying elements (colour, font, etc.) and gave us useful suggestions on how to improve fine motor skills and focus.
The geography quiz was a great opportunity for the students to revise what they learned so far, and also to learn about the specifics of our country, including its tourist potential. The biology teacher tested the students’ senses to the extreme! Dealing with the topic of the senses and our brain’s reaction to different physical perceptions, the students had the task of guessing what was hidden in the boxes. Of course, only the bravest dared to reach into the box containing a turtle! History word search gave the students some difficulties – remembering historical interesting facts was not easy, but with the teacher’s great help and hints, the students remembered even the smallest details. A great parallel between physics and architecture was made by Physics and Techniques and Technology teachers, Irena Stanković and Jovana Mijatović. Namely, dealing with architectural wonders, the buildings that defy the laws of physics, the students realised that knowledge of physics is necessary for life. Miloš Petrović, a Music teacher, showed us that the human mind is truly a fantastic creation, and introduced the students to the musical miracles and musical geniuses of today. The Translation workshop reminded us that the connection between the German and French languages is stronger than it seemed to us until now.
Students of Primary School Savremena enjoy educational activities of this type. The variety of workshops and their interesting content make the acquired knowledge practical and purposeful. We were happy to participate in those activities and can’t wait for the next Corner Day!
