Children's Week charity bazaar at Savremena

A creative, charity bazaar for junior students under the slogan “May all children be equal”

In celebration of Children’s Week, Primary School Savremena organised a charity bazaar for junior students under the slogan “May all children be equal”. The idea was to help those in need, and show not only humaneness – one of the greatest qualities a person could have – but creativity, as well.

With a serious approach and lots of love and positive energy, Savremena’s primary students took on the role of artists whose works of art would be sold for charity. The idea was for the students to use their imagination and creativity to create and design their Children’s Week charity bazaar exhibition.

A CHILD IS A CHILD, TO LOVE AND UNDERSTAND

This event takes place 4–10 October all around Serbia. Children’s Week aims to raise awareness about the needs and rights of children, highlight the responsibility families, schools, and governments have when it comes to protecting children and their rights, and to promote the active participation of children in the decision making process.

The first Children’s Week in this region was celebrated in 1934, and since then it has evolved in order to meet children’s needs and wants. For the motto of this year’s Children’s Week, we chose Ljubivoje Ršumović’s verses: “A child is a child, to love and understand”.

The participants of the event discussed children’s rights and obligations. Teacher Ivana Dimitrijević talked about equality with her students, and after discussing children who don’t have the required living conditions, they decided to help these children by organising a charity bazaar. Everyone at the school is intent on making children’s lives better; after all, in the words of our poet Ljubivoje Ršumović – kids are the world’s pearls.

We know how important it is to eliminate discrimination and make all children equal. There are many children in the world who don’t have a happy childhood and live in inadequate conditions. It is our task to help them in any way we can.

EXPLORING CREATIVITY FOR THE SAKE OF CHARITY

The students made cards, frames, bracelets, necklaces, decorations, drawings, bows, badges, decorated boxes, brooches, masks, paintings, quotations on wrapping paper, paper hats, etc.

Together with their teachers, Savremena’s students also made different objects out of clay, which will be displayed in the school hallway. The driving force behind their effort was their dedication and motto – “let’s help our friends in need”. Finally, by doing good for others, they became better people themselves.

At the bazaar, we had boxes in which the parents could make charity donations for the objects they wanted to purchase.

We are proud of the fact that our students are showing empathy and kindness from an early age.
