Fourth-graders visit at the National Museum

Savremena students amazed by the art at the National Museum and its rich collection

Fourth-grade went to the National Museum to take part in a workshop called “Children in painting”, during which they had an opportunity to see the rest of the exhibition at the National Museum. Not only were they astonished by the edifice where the museum is located, which many of the students visited for the first time, but they were also captivated by many of the works. We are delighted that the little ones at Savremena love art.

The National Museum in Belgrade was founded as early as in 1844. Up until 1950, it moved as many as 11 times. In the meantime, the museum’s archaeological, numismatic and artistic objects were becoming more and more numerous and increasingly interesting to the public.

The entire collection of the National Museum comprises over 400,000 artefacts from different fields and is chronologically organised in subcollections, dating from the Palaeolithic all the way to the 20th century. It is also organised according to the type of object or work of art.

This visit delighted Year 4 students, who were particularly impressed by the following works: “the Ancient Egyptian collection” (the mummy of Nesmin, a priest from Akhmim), the painting “Coronation of Tsar Dušan” by Paja Jovanović, and of course the digital face of a prehistoric man from Lepenski Vir, shown for the first time in human history, animated and “revived” using “metahuman” technology which was developed in Serbia.

The children left the museum full of impressions and they had a thousand questions for our guide. This was a perfect opportunity for them to take an even greater interest in history and art.
