A tradition that brings generations together: a basketball match between eighth-graders and teachers at Savremena
Fair play, team spirit and mutual respect on the court
At Savremena Primary School, the traditional basketball match between eighth-grade students and teachers was once again played, bringing plenty of smiles, cheering and positive energy. Year after year, this event proves to be much more than a sports competition. It is a wonderful opportunity for students and teachers to connect in a different way – through play, teamwork and shared joy.
The eighth-graders stepped onto the court ready to show their basketball skills, speed and enthusiasm, while the teachers’ team was represented by Željko Zarić, Petar Mihailović and Miloš Lazić. The match took place in a great atmosphere, filled with impressive moves, assists, baskets and, most importantly, fair play.
The special value of this event lies in preserving a tradition that students will remember as one of the meaningful final moments of their primary school journey. Through activities like this, Savremena shows that school is not only a place for learning, but also a space where relationships, trust and togetherness are built.

Sportsmanship and respect as the most important result
Although both teams entered the court determined to give their best, the final score was not the main focus this time. What mattered far more were the values visible throughout the game – mutual respect, support, smiles and the willingness to applaud every good move. The students showed determination, team spirit and great energy, while the teachers once again demonstrated how adults can encourage healthy competition and fair play through their own example.
Željko Zarić, Petar Mihailović and Miloš Lazić made a special contribution to the atmosphere on the court, showing that a teacher can also be a teammate, an opponent, a motivator and a source of support. Moments like these create closeness and further strengthen the relationship of trust between students and teachers.
That is why the traditional match between eighth-graders and teachers holds a special place in school life at Savremena. It reminds us that sport is not only about competition, but also about learning to respect rules, accept victory and defeat, cooperate with others and take responsibility within a team. Through play, students develop values that remain important far beyond the sports court.
Memories to cherish and values that last
For eighth-grade students, this match represents much more than a school sports event. It is part of the final memories they will take with them from Savremena, together with friendships, lessons and experiences that have shaped their growing up. Every basket, every assist and every round of applause contributed to an atmosphere of togetherness and joy.
Events like this confirm how important it is for a school environment to nurture relationships based on trust, support and respect. When students and teachers stand on opposite sides of the court, yet share the same goal – to enjoy the game and show true sportsmanship – moments are created that will be remembered for a long time.
Savremena Primary School will continue to preserve and develop this wonderful tradition, as it reflects the values nurtured in school every day: togetherness, fair play, respect and the joy of learning through experience. Another match has ended, but the smiles, energy and memories it brought remain the most beautiful result.
