A spirit of competition at Savremena: Fantastic results in the past two years
Our students have made the school proud by excelling and winning in many areas
In the past two years, our students have achieved great results in different areas! They have competed with their peers in the country and abroad, and won many times, proving how much quality they possess. At the same time, their accomplishments testify to the highest standards implemented at Primary School Savremena.
What’s left is to sum up their results, which are more than impressive! We want to thank them for brilliantly representing the school, and wish them luck and success in all upcoming competitions, which for them are always a creative challenge and an opportunity to have great fun.
BRILLIANT MATHEMATICIANS SHOWCASED THEIR SKILLS IN DIFFERENT COMPETITIONS
Maths is one of the favourite subjects at Primary School Savremena, which often isn’t the case in other schools. Maths lessons are always unusual, interactive, and based on real-life situations. Savremena’s primary students not only love this subject, but they regularly achieve excellent results in official competitions.
Since November 2019, we’ve had a string of accomplishments in maths. On 7 November we had our first school competition, in which students in Years 3 through 5 showed great competitive spirit and skills. Four students qualified for the municipal competition, where Hajdi Gajić won the maximum number of points (100), and her classmate Luka Mitić just 5 points less.
After that, Daria Denisova and Petar Stamenić from Primary School Savremena shone at the Misliša 2020 contest organised by Mathematical Society “Archimedes”.
More than 54,500 primary students from Serbia took part in this anniversary edition. Savremena’s students, whose talents are fostered and developed by teacher Branka Đurović, showed an exceptional level of skill and made it to the top. With 56 out of the maximum 60 points, Daria Denisova came second among first-graders, while her schoolmate also placed high with 47 points.
The Kangaroo Without Borders competition is ongoing; it took place at Savremena and we’re eagerly awaiting the results.
It’s well known how successful Savremena’s students are in maths competitions. This time, our junior students applied for the competition that simultaneously takes place in as many as 90 countries around the world.
TECH COMPETITIONS FOR FUTURE ENGINEERS
Savremena students’ tech accomplishments are, it seems, a given! First the students achieved excellent results in the school technology competition (TiT), with seven of them qualifying for the municipal competition.
Everyone was brilliant in this round, but the amazing Filip Perišić excelled and qualified for the regional contest.
This extraordinarily talented boy has shown a great competitive spirit and desire to advance.
Praise also went to teacher Maja Erić, who prepared the talented students for school, municipal and regional competitions.
Quality work always yields results!
But that’s not all: this year, Savremena’s primary students have taken part in the FIRST LEGO League, which took place in the First Secondary School in Kragujevac. Our team comprised five students and two teachers.
This competition takes place in more than 100 countries including Serbia. More than 35,000 teams apply at the global level.
Savremena was represented by a team called Gamechangers. The team comprised students Dušan Šušilović, Vuk Pantić, Aleksandar Nenezić, Filip Perišić and Vanja Pavlović, and mentors Maja Erić and Milić Vukojičić.
The students particularly excelled in the Innovative Project segment, and won medals for their participation in this prestigious talent show. Their innovative project was called EcoHealthyBot. It’s a robot whose role is to raise people’s awareness about the importance of physical exercise, and it also blends technology, environmentalism and a healthy lifestyle.
Well done for the idea! And the medals!
Savremena also hosted the Beaver Computational Thinking Competition, where the students achieved good results and showed a great understanding of the content, given that their lessons at school are based on innovative ICT approaches.
IMPORTANT RESULTS IN LANGUAGE COMPETITIONS
This year, the students have taken part in the HIPPO English Language Olympiad! They competed with their peers from all over the world and showcased their English skills. More than 40,000 students from primary and secondary schools applied, so the competition was really tough.
Despite the record number of contestants, six students from Savremena achieved excellent results and managed to qualify for the semi-finals: Maja Milutinović, Vuk Virić, Mateja Baketarić, Milica Trikić, Luka Markićević and Petra Janev. All of them have great English skills and many speak English as if it were their mother tongue.
The students achieved these results thanks to the help from teachers Melanija Savić and Danica Colnarić.
In addition, Savremena’s primary students took part in the international Willkommen language competition. Faced with a tough competition, our student Lilita Milčić won first place in both rounds of the English competition, while her classmate Aleksa Rikić triumphed in the French competition.
These amazing students are the pride and joy of Primary School Savremena. We’re sure that many of their friends will follow in their footsteps. Let’s not forget that last year, Savremena’s students had a total score of more than 85%. Eighteen of them took part in the English, German and French competitions, with a success rate of 85%–100%.
With a lot of practice, hard work and mentorship, medals will surely come in the ongoing Willkommen 2021 competition.
SPORT AS A SYNONYM FOR HEALTH AND MEDALS, AND AN INSPIRATION FOR THE FUTURE
In addition to the aforementioned competitions, Savremena organised Savremena’s Sports Games, which included table tennis, cross country running, basketball and football competitions. The best students took home trophies and medals.
The most prestigious primary school regularly organises sports events in which students compete in football, basketball, volleyball, running, gymnastics, etc. And they often visit parks and have different outdoor activities. The most successful teams and individuals win medals, while the reward for the other contestants is great fun and quality time spent together with their friends.
The goal of these events is primarily to promote athleticism and sportsmanship, but also foster friendships and spend time together.
Some brilliant students also achieve extraordinary results outside of school. Savremena’s girls achieved notable results in winter sports contests at Kopaonik.
In addition to achieving fantastic results in school, Year 3 students Lana Lukač and Teodora Vujović have shown that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it, thus motivating their friends to push themselves.
Lana’s skiing achievements are amazing. Earlier this year she managed to win two tournaments at Kopaonik: the BSK Cup and the National Cup! In the snowboarding competition, Teodora Vujović won two silver and two bronze medals!
Lana is undoubtedly one of the most promising skiers in Serbia in her age group. With her snowboarding accomplishments, Teodora has shown multiple talents and is a great hope of Serbian sport. Congratulations!
Because of the results they achieve in all areas, our students are always winners. Their talent, courage and knowledge are clear indicators that they are heading towards a successful future. And we couldn’t be more proud of them!
Well done and thank you, our Savremena friends!
