A CHARITABLE GESTURE BY SAVREMENA’S PRIMARY STUDENTS AND MILA’S DAD
Veljko Dželatović, father of Mila from class I-1, surprised Primary School Savremena with a grand humane gesture. As part of a charity campaign, a significant amount of plastic bottle caps was collected on his initiative. Veljko then brought the caps to Primary School Savremena so they could be sent for recycling. The money collected through this campaign is used for purchasing orthopaedic aids for disabled persons.
THE “CAP FOR HANDICAP” CAMPAIGN
In this campaign, which started in September 2012, citizens collect plastic bottle caps on a voluntary basis. The caps are then sold to companies dealing with hard plastic recycling. The collected money is used for purchasing new or used orthopaedic aids for disabled persons. These activities are aimed at changing social awareness and responsibility with regard to the environment and disabled persons.
The mission of “Cap for Handicap” is to improve the living conditions for disabled persons and enable them to fully realise their potential using the resources available in the community. In the past five years, 78 orthopaedic aids have been bought and 600 tons of caps have been recycled.
PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARN A VALUABLE LESSON – HOW TO BE HUMANE AND CARE FOR OTHER
While participating in this campaign, the students had lots of fun, but they also learnt a valuable lesson – what it means to be humane and how to care for others. Their teachers taught them how to be socially responsible and how a gesture such as this one can help many people. This has been one in a series of charity events Savremena’s students will take part in. All the students were happy to have been a part of it:
Thanks to Mila’s dad who told us about “Cap for Handicap” and thanks to our teachers for teaching us how to care about others.
Also, the students recently took part in another charity event in which they donated school supplies to their friends from another primary school.
ECO-SCHOOL AND RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Savremena is an eco-friendly school whose students learn about the importance of protecting our home, planet Earth, through various curricular and extracurricular activities, joint projects and campaigns.
In addition to being a big charity campaign and a great endeavour for Savremena’s students, the campaign has also been an important lesson on environmentalism that enabled the students to expand the knowledge they gained in a recycling and environmental protection workshop.
