A ceremony to remember! We celebrated School’s Annual Day and World Children’s Day
An evening filled with love, laughter and applause
Children adorn the world, and our students adorn Savremena. Thanks to them, the School’s Annual Day was celebrated in the most beautiful way possible, on the World’s Children’s Day. Students and their teachers prepared a wonderful performance and diverse program for their parents and all other visitors that will remain in their memory for a long time.
The program was designed to include as many children in the performance as possible. Students took a great interest in the program, and many of them took part in the rehearsals in order to showcase their talent on stage and defeat stage fright. Children proved to be wonderful hosts. They commanded the stage, showing no traces of stage fright, and made their parents and teachers proud. The audience did not remain indifferent either, and we will admit that tears of joy were seen on many faces that evening.
In addition to diverse musical numbers and stage performances, the program revolved around color classes. The program started with a blue class, where students announced the program in Serbian and English. Every next class was in one of the colors of Savremena, and students talked about the success of their schoolmates in various fields.
Audience was enchanted by our interpretation of well-known verses
Our little choir, comprising Year 1, 2 and 3 students, performed in the first section of the program, singing famous children’s songs, such as Kolibri’s Proleće (Spring) and Au, što je škola zgodna (My, the school is great). They got the audience on their feet, bringing smiles on their faces, and were rewarded with a big round of applause.
The next act was the performance of senior students who played the guitar. They awed the audience with their rendition of Bajaga’s songs. The big choir of Savremena generated quite a buzz with their brilliant interpretation of Adele’s songs, and the theme song from the latest James Bond movie. They even had two students in costume who played out scenes from the movie.
Color classes, as well as music and dance interchanged on stage during the program. Savremena dance troupe performed their modern dance number, with choreography they designed themselves, causing a standing ovation from the audience.
The program was raised to an ever higher level by students who competed in numerous renowned piano competitions, proving that, although young, they are already serious virtuosos on their instrument.
We depicted the comprehensiveness and intricacy of Savremena classes
In the last, yellow class, students demonstrated what a school lesson in Savremena that involves the use of a VR headset looks like. True, they encountered a few difficulties without the support of teachers they usually have in class, but no one found fault with their demonstration, because it is not easy to depict the beauty of Savremena classes outside of school.
At the very end of the program, Savremena Principal Jasmina Franolić gave a touching speech, and like a good host, thanked parents as the first and most important partners of the school, as well as all other associates and partners who helped us turn Savremena into something more than an ordinary school – an oasis of love, knowledge and laughter. To add the finishing touch to the performance, the Principal acted as an interpreter, translating her speech into Serbian, while her original speech in English was spoken by a student who played the role of the Principal.
At the very end of the event, the school hymn, Spremni smo za novo vreme (Ready for a new age), after which the entire event was named, was performed for the first time. The hymn was written by the Principal of Savremena Primary School, Jasmina Franolić, and music teacher Miloš Petrović. They interwove their love of children and teaching into the lyrics, music, and arrangement.
The culmination of the successful evening was a charity exhibition in the atrium of the Children’s Cultural Center, where the event itself took place. By purchasing tickets for the event, visitors got the privilege to choose one of the displayed works of Savremena students that were created in the previous three months through collection and recycling and take them home. All the money collected in this humanitarian initiative will be transferred for the treatment of Vuk Grujičić.
