First-grade students at Savremena Primary School had the unique opportunity to explore their dreams, imagination, and empathy through the theme Living with Others in their English Language class. Inspired by the enchanting animated film Encanto, which depicts the Madrigal family and their various magical powers used to support their community, our first graders created imaginative drawings and stories depicting the superpowers they would like to possess. Each imagined power shares a common thread – helping, cooperating, and loving others.

Through their chosen superpowers, the first graders embraced how these abilities could make everyday communication and cooperation with friends, family, and teachers easier. One student imagined a power to understand others’ feelings, highlighting how they would always be able to sense others’ emotions and provide support whenever needed. Another envisioned a superpower for instantly resolving conflicts, so that everyone could live harmoniously without disagreements. There were also creative superpowers like telepathy for better communication, the ability to help a friend in any situation, or even to “read” someone’s thoughts to understand their needs. Each of the superpowers designed encourages care, attention, and selfless assistance to others.

The result of this inspiring process is a beautiful display in the school hall, called the Superpower Wall. This wall is adorned with the children’s drawings, each one thoughtfully depicting their imaginative superpowers and describing how they would use them in daily life. Most importantly, many students highlighted that love is the greatest superpower everyone already possesses, and that it unites all other skills. Love, as the foundational superpower, was
