Tree Planting Action

``Tree for the Future`` Project

Thursday, March 6, 2026, was the day when students and preschoolers of Savremena Primary School actively participated in an action with significance far greater than a single day – planting trees as part of the “Tree for the Future” project by the 1% Foundation. With the help of greenery experts and the support of teachers, Savremenci planted young seedlings that will grow alongside them for years to come. Each planted tree bore a wooden tag with the school’s name and planting date – physical proof that students left a lasting mark.

The action wasn’t just a practical activity – it was an opportunity for students to understand what ecological responsibility means. Before planting, they discussed why greenery is important, how trees affect air quality, how they build an ecosystem that makes the city a better place to live. Then they moved to action. They dug the soil, carefully placed seedlings, covered the roots, pressed the soil around the trunk. All of this with smiles, concentration, and a sense that they were doing something meaningful.

From Shovel to Seedling

Every child participated in the process – regardless of age. Preschoolers and first-graders held seedlings, older students dug and covered the soil, everyone worked together as a team. There was no division between observers and participants – everyone was part of the action. Greenery professionals guided them through the process, showing how to properly plant a tree, how to ensure stability, how to protect the roots. Students carefully followed every step, asked questions, learned through work.

Each planted tree received its wooden tag with the inscription: “Foundation 1%, Tree for the Future, Savremena Primary School, 06.03.2026.” This small wooden tag carried a big message – that this wasn’t just planting, but engagement. That Savremena students actively contributed to the greenery of their city. And that every time they pass by these trees, they’ll know – we planted these trees.

Ecological Awareness Through Action

Such actions show how important it is for children not to learn about ecology only from books, but through direct experience. When a student plants a tree, they don’t just understand the theory of photosynthesis – they feel responsibility. They know that tree is there now because they participated. And when they see it grow, they understand that small actions have long-term impact.

Savremena Primary School recognizes the importance of active participation in the community and ecological education. Students don’t just learn about how the world works – they learn how they can influence it. How they can be part of the solution, not just observers of the problem. And precisely these kinds of actions build that awareness – through work, through a common goal, through a sense that they’ve contributed to something greater than themselves.

The trees planted on March 6, 2026, will grow for years. And with them will grow the awareness of the students who participated – that the future depends on what we do today. We thank the 1% Foundation for organizing the “Tree for the Future” project, and Savremenci – for their engagement, enthusiasm, and care for the city they live in.
