Third Graders Take on the Role of Older Siblings

A Maths-Filled Gathering with First Graders

In the spirit of unity, collaboration and peer support, third-grade students from Class III-1 visited the first graders of Class I-2 today as part of the “Big Brother, Big Sister” project. During their shared lesson, the students worked in pairs on maths exercises, developing logical thinking while also learning the value of helping and learning from one another.

The third graders took on the role of mentors – with patience, understanding and smiles, they guided their younger classmates through the tasks, explained problem-solving steps and encouraged them to think independently. The first graders, in turn, welcomed the help with enthusiasm and quickly built trust with their “older” friends.

Learning with Support and Smiles

The joint lesson unfolded in an atmosphere full of enthusiasm, cooperation and encouragement. While solving maths problems, the children complemented each other, offered support and learned not only arithmetic, but also how to be patient, attentive and kind.

For the third graders, this was an opportunity to feel responsible, apply their knowledge in practice, and give others what they once received themselves – attention and help. For the first graders, this encounter was meaningful, as they absorbed new knowledge more easily through play and conversation, while building their confidence.

Building Bonds That Last

The “Big Brother, Big Sister” project aims to connect students of different ages and foster values such as empathy, cooperation and mutual respect through shared activities. Primary School Savremena is proud of its students who continue to show that the true strength of a community lies in mutual support and understanding.

The time shared between Classes III-1 and I-2 wasn’t just a maths session – it was a heartwarming experience filled with kindness, smiles and valuable life lessons. Everyone is already looking forward to the next class together!
