Savremena Students Visit Topola and Oplenac – A Journey Through Serbian History
Discovering the Heart of Serbian Heritage
Students of Savremena Primary School spent an unforgettable day exploring the rich cultural and historical heritage of Topola and Oplenac. 🌿
Their journey began in Topola, the birthplace of modern Serbian statehood, where they learned about Karađorđe Petrović and his crucial role in the First Serbian Uprising. Through engaging storytelling and guided tours, students connected the lessons from history class with real places and events. Walking through the historic streets and old church grounds, they gained a deeper sense of pride and understanding of their nation’s past.

Oplenac – The Meeting of Art, Faith, and History
The visit continued at the magnificent Church of St. George at Oplenac, the legacy of the Karađorđević dynasty. Students admired its breathtaking mosaics — made of over 40 million colorful pieces — that depict iconic scenes from Serbian history and Orthodox tradition.
Inside the royal mausoleum, they learned about King Peter I and the enduring values of courage, unity, and dedication that shaped Serbia’s modern identity. Many described this as one of the most inspiring school trips they have ever experienced. 💛
The day in Topola and Oplenac reminded everyone that history is not just something we read about — it’s something we can see, touch, and feel. Through experiences like this, Savremena continues to nurture curiosity, pride, and respect for cultural heritage. 🌟
