Savremena Primary Students Discover the Magic of Golubac Fortress

A day filled with smiles, nature and shared memories — students explored history and the beauty of the Danube.

The students of Savremena Primary School spent an unforgettable day on their excursion to the magnificent Golubac Fortress, one of the most beautiful medieval landmarks in Serbia.

Perched on the banks of the Danube, this centuries-old fortress guards the stories of knights, merchants and travellers who once passed through the Iron Gates gorge. Our students enthusiastically explored its towers, passages and walls while listening to fascinating legends and historical facts that came to life through the guide’s storytelling.

The sunny weather and stunning natural surroundings made the experience even more special. From the lookout point, students enjoyed a breathtaking view — the deep blue Danube, the green hills and the ancient stone walls telling their timeless tales. Of course, there was plenty of laughter, group photos and joy at being part of this little historical adventure.

Nature, Friendship and Smiles

After touring the fortress, students continued their day in the nearby part of the natural reserve, where they enjoyed games, walks and time together in nature. The Danube, the lush green slopes and the view of Golubac Fortress created the perfect backdrop for a day everyone will remember.

This excursion was an opportunity for our students to learn more about the natural beauty and historical importance of the region — but also to feel the true spirit of friendship and togetherness. The excitement was visible on everyone’s faces — from the youngest Year 3 pupils to the curious older students.

We are grateful to our teachers and guides for excellent organisation and for making sure the day was safe, cheerful and inspiring.

Once again, Savremena Primary School showed that learning doesn’t happen only in the classroom — it happens everywhere children explore, grow and enjoy discovering the world together.
