Savremena Primary Students at the New Belgrade Athletics Day

The students of Savremena Primary School demonstrated sportsmanship, teamwork and dedication at the Athletics Day competition.

Savremena Primary School students took part in this year’s New Belgrade Athletics Day, one of the most exciting sports events for primary school children in the capital. The competition gathered students from 18 schools, and our team proudly secured 13th place overall.

While some might call that “the middle of the table,” for us it’s a result to be proud of — especially since our team was made up mostly of Year 3 students, while most other schools competed with older Year 4 pupils. That’s what makes this success even more meaningful: our young athletes proved that with effort, enthusiasm and team spirit, age is no obstacle!

Throughout the entire day, our students radiated incredible energy — cheering for each other, shouting words of encouragement and supporting their teammates whether they were running, jumping or throwing. Everyone gave their best — and it truly showed.
The competition was also an opportunity to learn something that can’t be found in textbooks: fair play, perseverance and togetherness — values that we nurture every day through our school programme.

Support and Gratitude

What made the day even more special was the support our young athletes received from the stands. Parents, grandparents and friends came to cheer them on and created a true sports-day atmosphere. Their presence and applause gave the children an extra boost of motivation to give their all and finish every discipline with a smile.

A huge thank-you goes to teacher Branka Milićević, who led the team like a true captain and guardian of good spirits. Her dedication and organisation made sure everything ran smoothly. Special thanks also go to everyone who helped with the preparations and logistics of the event.

In the end, we can proudly say the day was more than a sports competition — it was a celebration of spirit, friendship and unity.
Our students showed that defeating yourself is just as important as winning a medal. Next year, we’re aiming even higher — with the same smiles and the same team heart!
