Parents at Work: Savremena Year 2 Students Explore the World of Aviation and Discover How Aircraft Are Repaired
Year 2 students visited Avio Network, stepped inside a passenger aircraft, met employees and discovered what goes into keeping aircraft safe and ready to fly
How often do you get the chance to step inside a real passenger aircraft, see how it is repaired and ask aviation experts everything you have ever wanted to know? That is exactly what Year 2 students at Savremena Primary School experienced on Friday, 16 October, when they visited Avio Network, a company specialising in passenger aircraft maintenance and repair, as part of the “Parents at Work” project.
This time, their host was one of the students’ fathers, who owns the company and gave the children an opportunity to discover a completely different working environment.
One of the most exciting moments for the students was entering the aircraft, exploring it up close and seeing what the people responsible for its maintenance do every day. They also had the chance to watch how aircraft repairs are carried out and meet professionals who know almost everything there is to know about aeroplanes.
There were plenty of questions, and the children were encouraged to ask anything they wanted. Their hosts made sure to explain their work in an interesting and accessible way, helping the students discover something new with every answer.
An ordinary school day became a day full of exciting experiences, interesting conversations and stories the children will undoubtedly enjoy sharing.

Behind Every Aircraft Is a Whole Team of People
Although stepping inside an aircraft was probably the highlight of the visit for many students, there was another side of the aviation industry waiting to be discovered. The children also visited the office where their classmate’s father works and saw what his working environment looks like. Alongside meeting the specialists directly involved in aircraft maintenance and repair, they discovered another side of the business that takes place behind a desk.
The visit helped students understand how many different skills and professions are involved in running an aviation company. While some employees work directly on aircraft, others are responsible for organisational and other important tasks, with cooperation between different teams contributing to the smooth running of the business.
Experiences like these are what make the “Parents at Work” project so meaningful. Children have the opportunity to discover their parents’ professions, explore real workplaces and learn about the wide variety of careers that exist.
At Savremena Primary School, activities like this are an important part of the learning experience. When students can see things for themselves, speak to people who work in a particular field and ask their own questions, learning becomes more engaging and easier to understand.
Beyond discovering different professions, these experiences encourage curiosity, independence and communication skills. They also help children understand why teamwork and responsibility matter in every profession. By connecting classroom learning with the world around them, each experience beyond the classroom becomes another opportunity to discover something new.
A Memorable Day and Certificates for Young Explorers
To finish the visit, the Year 2 students received one more lovely surprise. Each child was presented with a certificate as a keepsake from a day spent exploring aviation and discovering things they do not usually encounter in everyday life.
They returned with new knowledge, exciting memories and an experience they will remember for a long time. Perhaps this visit will even inspire one of them to become a pilot, engineer or aircraft maintenance specialist in the future.
At Savremena Primary School, this kind of learning is particularly valued because children gain a deeper understanding of the world when they have the opportunity to explore it themselves. That is why educational visits, practical activities and meetings with professionals from different fields are an important part of school life.
The “Parents at Work” project also demonstrates how cooperation between parents and the school can enrich everyday education and create wonderful opportunities for students.
For these young explorers, it was a day filled with questions, discoveries and new experiences. And it is often moments like these that create lasting memories and spark interests that continue to grow throughout childhood.
