Maths in Pairs
A Joint Class of Students from II-1 and V-2 in the Spirit of the “Big Brother, Little Brother” Project
Another inspiring lesson was held at Primary School Savremena as part of the “Big Brother, Little Brother” project. Students from Classes II-1 and V-2 joined forces during their maths lesson and showed that learning becomes even more meaningful when it’s filled with mutual support, trust and collaboration.
Pairs were thoughtfully formed – each fifth grader was partnered with a second grader to help them solve maths problems, encourage their thinking and offer words of support and motivation.

The Role of a Mentor Builds Both Knowledge and Character
For the fifth graders, this was an opportunity to step into the role of an older brother or sister – to review their own knowledge by explaining it, to develop patience and empathy, and to feel proud of helping someone else. The younger students gladly accepted their support, showing how much it means to have an older peer approach them with warmth and understanding.
Their joint effort led to excellent results – maths tasks were completed, but more importantly, everyone felt connected and valued. At the end of the lesson, students exchanged hugs and drawings, and made plans for their next meeting.
Unity That Is Learned and Nurtured
The “Big Brother, Little Brother” project promotes values of peer cooperation, understanding and support. It reminds us that every student, regardless of age, has something meaningful to offer – whether it’s knowledge, a smile or encouragement.
Primary School Savremena is proud of the students from Classes II-1 and V-2, who showed today that knowledge is most beautiful when shared, and unity is strongest when built through sincere, everyday connections.
