Math, but make it fun

Learning Through Play, Movement, and Friendly Competition

Practising multiplication tables at Savremena Primary School goes far beyond memorising facts and filling in notebooks. In one of the recent maths lessons, Savremenci had the opportunity to revise and strengthen their knowledge through play and friendly competition, using an interactive board and digital tasks. Instead of sitting at their desks, pupils stood up, approached the board, thought quickly, and reacted even faster. The goal of the lesson was clear – to practise multiplication in a way that is dynamic, motivating, and genuinely engaging for children.

The pupils took turns solving tasks, finding matching pairs, and connecting numbers with mathematical expressions, all while following clear rules and maintaining a healthy competitive spirit. Every correct answer earned points, but also sparked excitement, applause, and encouragement from classmates. The classroom atmosphere was full of energy – the joy of a correct solution was often celebrated with a jump, a smile, or a friendly pat on the shoulder. Through this approach, mathematics became a challenge embraced with enthusiasm, rather than a task that simply had to be completed.

Knowledge Shared and Celebrated Together

A special emphasis during the lesson was placed on cooperation and mutual support. Although the activities had a competitive element, Savremenci helped one another, shared ideas, and worked together to reach solutions. When mistakes happened, they were not a reason for disappointment, but an opportunity to rethink and learn. In this way, pupils developed confidence in their own knowledge while also understanding that the learning process is just as important as the correct result.

The use of the interactive board further increased student engagement. Visual elements, clear displays, and direct interaction made mathematics more tangible and interesting. Through play, pupils practised concentration, quick thinking, and logical reasoning, while at the same time building confidence when answering in front of others. The lesson clearly demonstrated how technology, when used thoughtfully, can be a powerful ally in the learning process.

When Mathematics Becomes Fun

At Savremena Primary School, we believe that children learn best when they are active, motivated, and fully involved. That is why our maths lessons often step outside traditional frameworks and become a space for play, movement, and idea exchange. Practising multiplication tables in this format helps pupils move beyond short-term memorisation and truly understand and apply their knowledge.

By the end of the lesson, Savremenci left the classroom satisfied, full of impressions, and with a strong sense of achievement. The multiplication table was no longer just a list of numbers – it became a game, a challenge, and a shared success. Lessons like this show that mathematics can be engaging, modern, and child-friendly when learned through experience and a positive classroom atmosphere. And that is exactly how we build lasting knowledge at Savremena.
