Life Skills Programme & Quince Jam from the School Garden
🥄 Magic Spoons — Responsibility in Every Step
As part of the Life Skills programme, students of Savremena Primary School participated in a creative workshop called “Magic Spoons”, inspired by a story from the book “Autumn Feast with Fairy Bosiljčica” by Željana Radojičić Lukić. During this activity, they developed the virtue of responsibility through practical tasks that combined tradition, teamwork, and learning through experience.

From Grandmas to the Schoolyard — Recipes That Tell Stories
Students brought family recipes from their grandmothers and mothers, listened to their stories, and learned how tradition plays a key role in shaping identity. They explored different cuisines from various parts of Serbia and discovered how food can serve as a bridge between generations. In this way, simple recipes became part of a shared learning experience that nurtures cultural heritage and family bonds.
Quinces from the Schoolyard — The Taste of Knowledge and Togetherness
One of the most beautiful moments of the workshop was when students picked quinces together in the schoolyard. As they filled their baskets with fragrant fruit, they talked about how nature can be a classroom and how every fruit is a reward for care and attention. The quince picking became a small ritual that strengthened teamwork and created memories that will last far beyond the lesson.
From Fruit to Responsibility Passports
After picking and preparing quince jam, students created their own “passports of responsibility” — small booklets documenting their activities and contributions. Each student could clearly see their own role and understand the value of each step. This activity showed them that responsibility isn’t an imposed duty, but a shared process that brings satisfaction and pride.
Life Skills in Practice — Small Lessons, Big Steps
Through “Magic Spoons”, students learned that responsibility is not just about completing a task, but doing it with care, cooperation, and awareness of its impact. These kinds of activities help children develop skills they will use throughout their lives: independence, teamwork, empathy, and respect for tradition. They also show how school can be a place where life is learned through real experiences, not just from books.
