As part of the “Big Brother, Little Brother” project, implemented at Primary School Savremena to promote connection and support among students of different grade levels, today Mateja Šćekić and Petar Kolarov from Class III-3 had the chance to become teachers for a day! Their students were first graders from Class I-3, and together they worked on reviewing math in a fun and engaging way.

This unique role reversal was a hit with both younger and older students. Mateja and Petar stepped into their teaching roles with confidence and care – they were patient, creative, and enthusiastic. Their dedication and friendly approach made the lesson special, and the first graders were eager to participate, answer questions, and tackle math tasks with a smile.

The “Big Brother, Little Brother” project is designed to help older students develop a sense of responsibility, empathy, and leadership, while giving younger students extra support and a sense of belonging. Activities like this foster a spirit of unity, cooperation, and mutual respect – values that are at the heart of everything we do at Savremena.

Mateja and Petar truly showed how knowledge can be shared in a friendly and informal way. Their ability to explain and encourage demonstrated that they’re not only great learners, but also wonderful young mentors.

The math class was filled with laughter, teamwork, and learning. With the help of their older buddies, the first graders practiced addition and subtraction, solved problems through games and hands-on exercises, and had a great time doing it. Smiles, raised hands, and curious questions filled the room – proof that learning is best when it’s shared.

To wrap things up, everyone worked together on a “math challenge” – a fun group task that highlighted how much can be achieved when we support one another.

At Primary School Savremena, we believe that knowledge is not just about results – it’s about the journey, shared experiences, and growing together. Projects like this one offer students the chance to gain not only academic skills, but also life skills that will stay with them for years to come.
