Experts from around the world at Savremena: Artificial intelligence and educational challenges

UNESCO, Beijing Normal University, and the Center for Robotics in Education address key topics on AI in education

Primary School Savremena recently hosted an important professional gathering titled “Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Risks in Education”, bringing together leading experts in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics. The event featured lectures by experts from UNESCO, Beijing Normal University, and the Smart Learning Institute, in collaboration with the Center for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in Education (CRAIE).

This topic, increasingly significant in the world of education, attracted numerous experts, educators, and school representatives, including Savremena’s own robotics professor, Maja Babić, who made a unique contribution to the discussion.

Key topics: Opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence

At this unique event, a wide range of topics related to artificial intelligence in education was discussed. One of the main themes was the potential of AI to personalize the learning process for each student, enabling customized methods tailored to individual needs and pace. The application of AI in analyzing educational data was also addressed, highlighting how it could track student progress and identify areas requiring additional support.

However, experts also reflected on possible challenges and risks. AI raises questions of data privacy and ethics in the educational context. Concerns were also raised about over-reliance on technology, which could reduce the role of teachers and potentially affect the quality of interaction with students. Experts emphasized the importance of balancing technological innovation with human presence in the classroom.

Insights from expert discussions

As one of the panelists, Professor Maja Babić discussed practical challenges in implementing AI in schools, drawing on examples from her work with students in robotics. She shared experiences in fostering young talent and highlighted how appropriate use of technology can empower students and encourage critical thinking and innovation. The event concluded with audience questions, further opening up topics on the future of education in the digital era and the importance of an ethical approach to new technologies.

This gathering at Primary School Savremena offered valuable insights and shed light on both the opportunities and risks that artificial intelligence brings to the world of education.
