Creative Workshop on Saint Sava

A creative workshop dedicated to the life of the first Serbian educator

As part of a creative workshop, students explored the life and legacy of Saint Sava, learning about his importance and the values he left behind. Through a combination of artistic expression and collaborative work, students created a unique book of artworks as well as numerous drawings inspired by Saint Sava. The workshop offered an opportunity to present history and tradition in a way that was engaging, accessible, and meaningful to students.

A collaborative book of student works

The central part of the workshop was the creation of a collective book dedicated to Saint Sava and his life. Through illustrations, short texts, and visual representations, students highlighted key moments from Saint Sava’s life, his role in education, the church, and culture, as well as the values he stood for—knowledge, peace, unity, and care for others. Each contribution became part of a larger whole, helping students understand how individual efforts come together to form a meaningful and complete project.

The process of creating the book encouraged cooperation, communication, and responsibility, as every student had a role in shaping the final result. This approach helped students develop teamwork skills and a sense of pride in creating a lasting piece of work that reflects both their learning and creativity.

Artistic expression and personal interpretation

In addition to working on the book, students also focused on drawing Saint Sava, exploring his image through colors, shapes, and their own imagination. Each artwork was different in style and expression, demonstrating how a single theme can inspire diverse interpretations. Some drawings followed traditional representations, while others reflected a more contemporary and personal approach, all marked by the students’ individual perspectives.

This artistic activity allowed students to express themselves freely, ask questions, and think about the meaning of the symbols they used. Through drawing, students connected knowledge gained in class with their own understanding of the topic, making the learning process more engaging and meaningful. The workshop highlighted the importance of learning through experience and creative expression. Saint Sava was presented not only as a historical figure, but as a symbol of values that remain relevant today—education, respect, unity, and responsibility. Through hands-on activities, students developed creativity, confidence, and the ability to turn ideas into tangible outcomes.

The final works, including the book and the displayed drawings, reflect the students’ dedication, enthusiasm, and genuine interest. Projects like this deepen understanding, strengthen the connection between tradition and modern learning, and support students’ personal development beyond the classroom.
