Classroom Without Walls: Year 1 and Year 2 Students Explored Avala
The first big school trip filled with excitement, nature, and learning
Year 1 and Year 2 students of Savremena Primary School spent a day at Avala as part of the “Classroom Without Walls” programme. For many students, especially the first graders, this was their very first encounter with learning outside the classroom, while the second graders, already accustomed to such activities, happily showed their younger peers what it looks like when school turns into a true adventure in nature.

A special experience for first graders
The first graders greeted their first big school trip with great excitement. Walking through nature, spending time with their classmates, and discovering the beauty of Avala was a completely new and unforgettable experience for them. Learning outside the desks helped them take their first steps into school life more easily, feel a sense of belonging, and create their first memories to cherish.
Second graders as little guides
For the Year 2 students, the trip to Avala was an opportunity to revise and expand on the knowledge they had gained the previous year, but also to act as little guides. They proudly shared their own “Classroom Without Walls” experiences and encouraged the first graders to join in games, tasks, and conversations throughout the tour. Their confidence and willingness to help the younger ones showed how togetherness grows from year to year.
Avala as a teacher
During the tour, the students learned interesting facts about the Avala Tower, while also enjoying the fresh air and the beautiful view of Belgrade. Surrounded by nature, they creatively combined knowledge from geography, history, and natural sciences, proving that school can truly be all around us.
The joy of a shared beginning
Once again, “Classroom Without Walls” brought together friendship, play, and learning. Year 1 and Year 2 students showed that a school year can begin with smiles, companionship, and experiences that spark curiosity and a love for learning. Trips like this leave a mark and lay the foundations for the school adventure that lies ahead.
