Autumn has arrived at Savremena — a season of colours, play, and creativity

Talking about autumn

Students of Savremena Primary School began their day with an autumn walk around the schoolyard, carefully collecting leaves of different shapes, colours, and textures. Back in the classroom, they talked about the changes that autumn brings — the colours of the trees, falling leaves, and the feeling of nature transforming around them.

This activity was a wonderful opportunity for children to connect learning about the seasons with observing the world in real life. While selecting the most beautiful leaves, they learned to recognise different types of trees and discovered how observing nature can feel like a small adventure. This created a solid foundation for all the creative workshops that followed.

Painting with leaf prints

One of the students’ favourite activities was painting using real leaves. They applied paint to the leaves, pressed them onto paper, and created beautiful autumn-inspired artworks filled with warm tones. Each child found their own way to express themselves — some painted trees, others landscapes, and some explored new shapes formed by the prints.

This technique beautifully connected art and nature in a simple yet deeply inspiring way. The students were amazed by how each print was unique and how something as simple as a leaf could become a piece of art. The classroom was filled with vibrant colours, laughter, and creative energy.

Making autumn decorations and artworks

After painting, the children used the collected leaves and other natural materials to create small autumn decorations and figures. Some made smiling suns out of leaves, others autumn trees, while many decorated their artworks with colourful paints and details.

This activity encouraged imagination and teamwork, as many creations were made in pairs or small groups. The students discussed, shared ideas, and helped each other bring their visions to life. Their classroom turned into a gallery full of autumn motifs, creating a sense of pride and shared achievement.

Learning through art and conversation

At the end of the workshop, students talked about what they had created and how they felt during the process. They spoke about colours, shapes, and autumn symbols, but also about how art relaxes them and makes them happy. These moments go beyond a typical art lesson — they are moments of emotional expression, collaboration, and focus.

Through creative activities, children learn to recognise beauty in nature and transfer their impressions onto paper. This approach helps them connect knowledge from different fields — nature, art, and language — into one meaningful experience.

An autumn classroom full of colour and smiles

When all the activities were finished, the classroom was covered in autumn colours and filled with a joyful atmosphere. The walls were decorated with students’ artwork, and the children were proud of what they had created together. Autumn wasn’t just a lesson topic — it became an experience everyone shared and remembered.

Days like this show how creativity and play can enrich school learning. In a warm and cheerful atmosphere, students learned that every season carries its own magic and that school can be a place full of joy, inspiration, and community.
