Art class as a small laboratory of ideas

Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag

During their art class, students of Savremena Primary School transformed the classroom into a true laboratory of ideas. Divided into groups, they drew and built projects on the theme of landforms, waters, and settlements. Instead of leaving the lesson only in their textbooks, children experienced it through colours, shapes, and teamwork.
Such classes help pupils connect theory with practice, turn abstract concepts into concrete images, and transform learning into experience. This approach makes Savremena a school where knowledge doesn’t remain just a written sentence but becomes part of a child’s imagination and personal expression.

Teamwork in colour – how children build unity through drawing

The group task encouraged pupils to work together, listen to each other’s ideas, and find ways for everyone to contribute. While drawing landforms, rivers, and settlements, they also learned the importance of listening, coordinating, and reaching agreements.
In this way, art class became the first lesson in leadership, empathy, and unity. Every child had their small part of the task, but only when they combined their ideas did the final projects come to life – works that all of them were proud of. This is an experience that goes far beyond traditional teaching.

Creativity as the key to understanding the world around us

Landforms, waters, and settlements in textbooks may seem like abstract terms. But when children draw them, shape them, and represent them in their own way, these concepts gain an entirely new meaning. Instead of passive memorisation, pupils developed visual thinking, logical connections, and the ability to translate knowledge into imagery.
This kind of creative learning not only helps them understand the material better but also builds skills they will need for the future – imagination, innovation, and the ability to transform the abstract into the practical. That is what sets Savremena apart from other schools – here, children learn to think differently.

When subjects come together – learning for the 21st century

This workshop was not just an art class – it was a fusion of different subjects and areas of knowledge. Social Studies, Art, and even Civic Education all met in one task. Pupils learned that knowledge from different areas is not separate but that it comes together to form a whole.
This is the essence of modern education: learning through connection and application. Children are taught to recognise links, combine ideas, and create new solutions. And that is exactly what they need to be ready for the challenges of the 21st century – and why Savremena rightfully carries the name “the school of the future.
