Successfully held second national SonS festival
Outstanding performance by Serbian teachers in STEM
Primary School Savremena recently hosted the second national “Science on Stage” festival, organised by the Institute for Contemporary Education and Savremena Gimnazija.
Full of inspiration and innovation, the festival brought together teachers from various schools and cities across Serbia. Special guests included teachers Miloš Laković from Montenegro and Michael Gregory from France, who, through highly attended workshops, shared their valuable experiences with participants, thus enriching the festival’s program.
This festival was also an ideal opportunity for participants to present their projects and innovations in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). All projects covered a wide range of topics, from ecology to robotics, demonstrating the creativity and research enthusiasm of the teachers.
Among the finalists of this exceptional competition is Danica Nikolić, a primary school teacher from Savremena, who, through her dedication and innovative approach to STEM education, earned her place among the best teachers in Serbia. Her project, titled “Moje STEM znanje za bezbedno i lako putovanje”, aims to make traffic, its rules, history, and safe usage more interesting to students.
On this occasion, after careful evaluations, representatives of Serbia were selected for the international SonS festival to be held in Turku, Finland. Their names, along with the names of their projects, are the following: Dragan Golubović (“Fizika kao bajka”), Jelena Babić and Ljiljana Sokolović (“Magična jabuka”), Vesna Hlavati Širka (“Genetika goluba”) and Vesela Mačkić (“Baci svetlost na fiziku”).
In addition to selecting representatives for the international competition, four special awards were presented during the festival for outstanding contributions and innovations in various STEM areas. This year’s awarded teachers are the following: Olga Dukić (“Pametna kuća”), Zorana Milićević (“Scoby Dooby Do”), Aleksandar Dimitrijević (“Izrada ekstrudera za PET-G filament”) and Biljana Kalafatić (“Avantura merenja u čarobnom STEM-gradu”).
The SonS festival is not just a competitive event but also an opportunity for professional development and knowledge exchange. Teachers had the chance to learn from experts in various fields, enhancing their practices in STEM education.
We expect this generation of teachers and innovators to continue setting standards of excellence in STEM fields, and Serbia to take pride in their contributions to scientific progress.
Congratulations to all participants, winners of special awards, and representatives of Serbia at the upcoming international SonS festival in Finland. Together, we continue to explore, innovate, and contribute to a better world of education!
